This is an utility to convert Sharp computer's save tapes into ASCII or binary image files.

The source file is now available and is licensed under the GPL, please read the included copying.txt file.

Norbert Roll wrote a Mac OSX version of WAV2BIN (based on the 1.33 Windows version) :

Windows interface is available for WAV2BIN on Anton's site :-).

This software is written in Ansi C, compilable with any compiler (I have used an old Borland C version 3.1).

Digitize the audio tape in a WAV file (11 KHz recommended), or better, digitize directly from the Sharp tape interface (plug the tape interface output to your sound card MIC input).

In a DOS shell type :

WAV file, which must be compliant to the following rules :

- 8 bits per sample,

- 5 to 22 KHz sample frequency (11 KHz recommended).

Output file, the format will depend of the source file :

- ASCII file, if the source WAV contains a Basic program,

- Binary file, if the source WAV contains Assembly Program or Datas,

If DstFile equal "NULL", no output file is generated.

Destination file type (option for the BASIC sources files) :

- BAS Basic program ASCII image file, (default)

- IMG Basic program binary image file.

Convert special characters (option used with T:BAS) :

Print debug traces (see source file) :

- a hexadecimal integer (0x____)

- Default output is an ASCII file (can be forced to binary image),

- All known basic token are converted,

- Unknown token are converted to a hexadecimal code between square brackets,

- Special caracters are converted to a hexadecimal code between square brackets or to IBM PC caracters [ASCII code] :

Old format, Assembly program or Datas,

New format, Assembly program or Datas,

PC-1500 format, Assembly program or Datas.

- Output is a Binary image of the file content.

- The parameter's order after SrcFile and DstFile is not significant.

- T: and G: parameters are optional.

- The D: parameter is used only for debug purpose.

- General enhancements : WAV file reading more robust. WAV2BIN now detects sync sequences (strings of ones of a minimum length of about 0.5 seconds) inside the data and tries to resynchronize upon them.

- Data files : The previous version didn't support file type 0x74, data.Decoding a data file always ends with a "synchronization lost"

If you didn't touch the binary data and it's still in its original binary wav/mp3 form, you have the audio file. Just write it to a file to make it an actual file:

You do not need to 'convert' it, but if you want to allow a user to download an mp3 or wav file you need to set the correct headers.

You can set the headers for an mp3 download using the following code.

Note, you will need to know the length of the mp3 data.
